Mashable's Take

With websites like Mashable, it often seems to me ..."Why Bother?"...

It will be much cooler than normal next week:  the tech site is on it!

Tuesday the Hottest of Next 10...

...and maybe of the remainder of July?!?!  We are locked into a pattern where neither heat nor summer chill will hold for any length of time.  With that said, heat waves tend to become difficult to attain, but with minimal rainfall except for those few lucky locales that get "splashed and dashed" by some renegade convection accompanying the numerous short waves and frontal passages, heat can build quickly over the relatively dry ground and high sun angle.  It just gets beaten back by airflow from the mid-levels of the atmosphere that originate over central O Canada!  Here is the Euro's meteogram of the next 10 for Harrisburg...after tomorrow...daytime highs in the mid to upper 80s with overnight lows in the upper 60s.
The next few maps I'm going to show will be the highest heights (warmest temps) as per the Euro in terms of the 500 mb level and the lowest heights (coolest) over the next 10 days...First the warmest mid-levels or ridging...valid this weekend.  But this is one of those situations where the surface will not accurately reflect the upper levels as this weekend looks to be cooler than the 30 yr averages in these parts...also note the dip in the isobars just to the west of PA...an upper air short wave or disturbance which might spin up some convection for this weekend...
Here are the lowest heights or the coolest mid-levels...quite cool over Ontario...this map is valid next Wednesday so be cautious as it is a 9 day forecast...
And finally the 5 day means of the 500 mb levels...now through Thursday...cooler air on the move...
Now centered on the weekend...temps look to be norms in the mid-levels but should be coolish once again at the surface...
And lastly, the 5 day period centered for early next week...extensively cooler than normal temps across the Great Lakes and the midwest...it should be quite comfortable, maybe even chilly for the mid-summer classic to be held this year at Target Field, Minneapolis, MN.
OK...gonna go grill my chicken complete with lots of collagen to help rebuild my elbow joints which have lately been a bit achy...different story for a different day.  My dogs think it is quite hot and uncomfortable out here; for me, love the breeze and the mid 60 dew points.  The dogs think it is a "dog's day" as they are simply lying about.  Also pumped about those first place O's!
Enjoy your mid-week...

AA:  Hot Monday and Tuesday, then becoming cooler and closer to normal.  Could rain Monday pm-Wednesday basically anytime, but looks drier to me than the modeling.  Cooler than normal weekend into next week.  2 out of 3 from the BoSox this weekend, now that is what I'm talking about!
