By now, y'all have
to have heard that there is a major winter storm threat for the northeast US
this Friday-Saturday time period. The
meteorological players are now over the continent. This has the potential to be a significant
snow from Mt. Pocono northeastward through the Catskills and much of central
and southern New England. In fact, this could be an HISTORICAL snow for places in New York, CT, MA, and NH, and VT! So who is in the lineup? Leading off... Canadian high pressure building into Quebec
and New England Thursday into Friday! 1038 mb high ain't too shabby....
Batting second...A relatively strong southern-branch disturbance that's triggering thunderstorms in TX today!
Here are those T-storms...
In the 3rd
position…a polar jet vort max in the northern Rockies diving east-south-east…
It is a classic set up: cold air to the north of us, and a split flow to our SW with the 2 jet streams tossing 2 upper air disturbances towards the east coast. $1,000,000 Questions: How, where, when will the 2 branches of the jet stream interact and spin up a classic nor'easter along the east coast? I wish I knew...the Euro has been rock solid in its insistence this was going to occur!
That's quite the mouth-frothing, jaw-dropping crippler for New England! Enjoy you ski bunnies! But for us hanging near KMDT this weekend, we will see a moderate snow event that might actually begin as some rain/sleet as the cold air gets eroded by the northern feature...however...as the storm intensifies off the coast, the cold will blast in at all levels and turn the precip to snow and it will fall heavily at times Friday afternoon! I'm only looking for a 2-4" event here...the real snow guns will be aimed at lets say Worcester, MA! If it phases earlier, we will see greater snow amounts...or conversely, nada if the jets don't phase...or STRIKE OUT!
OK...more later...gotta go...my mutts are raisin cain outside...not those 2?!?! Haha! If y'all only knew.....
Enjoy your Wednesday evening.....

AA: Nor'easter to pound New England, no doubt a Grand Slam; a quick hit and run for here!
